Week 5

A hacker is an expert or enthusiast of any kind. One might be an astronomy hacker, for example. This definition was the most intriguing for me from the Jargon File as it sounds about correct. A hacker is somebody who is passionate about what they do and it can be possible in any other field besides IT also. In order to find out what you are curious about you might cross the ethical line but that mostly depends on the person and his/her principles.

One other definition seemed funny to me- a person who is good at programming quickly. I would rather call that person a professional on his field as a hacker is more of an armature to me. In today’s world the hacker ethic depends on the persons own ethical views.

If I think of a minority group in Estonia the first that came to my mind are our neighbors from the east. A minority group would mean that those people do not have the same understanding of something particular as others do. The second minority group to mention would be the homosexuals. It doesn’t actually matter to which minority group you belong to, you can make use of the Internet anyway. As in Estonia we have the freedom of speech it is possible for every individual to tell the world if they have been discriminated. It also gives them the possibility to express and explain why they believe in different things and therefore belong to a minority group. I don’t think people should be punished or discriminated for being different as long as everything is illegal and ethical. In today’s world blogs are the perfect places to protect and speak for yourself.
